Opinion

In my opinion... I sit on the fence too much!

I have had too much uni work on lately for my liking, but can't believe I haven't uploaded anything for a month! I have a half finished sketch for the IF topic Vacant from a while back that will be up as soon as it's done.

Thanks yoon see for the tag... at the moment I don't have time to pass it on, but I will tell you a few facts about myself: 1. My favourite colour is yellow, but I hardly ever wear it (usually purple or green like in this drawing!) 2. I love making soup. Nothing beats homemade vegetable soup. 3. My favourite flowers are daffodils, partly because they're yellow, partly because they show it's Spring (which is incidentally my favourite season).

Late

My take on this week's Illustration Friday topic - Late.

Rainbows through the rain

I'm feeling a little out of my depth (just because I'm tired and have too much to do) so I drew this to make myself feel better (and put off doing any of the things I need to be doing for a bit longer!!)

Its more of a concept sketch for a drawing to do later than a proper sketch. The words incase you can't read them (I had to go over everything with a thicker pen as it wouldn't scan 0.1) say 'Things may seem difficult, but it all depends on your perspective... The sun still shines above rainclouds, you might even get a rainbow...'

In answer to your question yoon see, my studies are going well but are a bit busy at the moment (not that I really expected anything else from my final year...) Thanks for asking!

Catch up

Unfinished drawings... This was for the IF theme of 'clutter'. Its not finished yet (only a small amount got coloured) but I do intend to at some point... The idea was the clutter inside my head. These are some of the thoughts at the time as I see them. (I was on a train travelling to Wales).

On the way back from Tywyn I stopped over at my friend Katy's in Aberystwyth. We had a great weekend with glorious sunshine and it felt like a proper holiday. A little reminder of some of the things we did. Things have been a little hectic lately so sorry for the lack of finished drawings!

Birthday Cat

Drawn in ink then coloured on the computer. Mainly from a photo of my Grandpa's (it's for his birthday) but with the cat added in. I was inspired to try and develop colouring on the computer from looking at Christina Jonsson's amazing work.

Memories

This represents a memory of going star gazing with friends in Wales. We climbed up to a ruined castle and watched for shooting stars. We saw many and even part of the Milky Way. For this and other reasons it will stick in my memory as a wonderful adventure for a long time yet! (What the drawing doesn't show is the field of cows we had to walk back through in the dark... cows you can hear but not see, very spooky! That the the farmer with a searchlight who was 'just walking his dogs'....)

Detach

My attempt at 'Detach', last week's Illustration Friday topic.

EDM #183 Draw Something Dangerous

Looks pretty dangerous to me!

Sail

This is my take on Illustration Friday's topic Sail. Sooo much fun!

Edm #180 Draw Something in your Favourite Colour

Yellow! This hasn't come out as yellow as it did on paper. It's a woven thing that was in some yellow flowers I was given. Quite challenging but I'm pleased with it.

Static Trapeze

This is a birthday card I sketched for a friend who's into trapeze and circus skills. One of my aims is to practice drawing figures. This is adapted from a photo, and I was actually really pleased how it turned out. (The colours a bit speckled because it was drawn on very textured card)

poof!

Illustration Friday topic. A bit of fun! Not one of my best drawings but I'm trying to get back into posting regularly.

Squirrel

This furry creature visits our garden. He's getting rather fat!
First post after rather a long absence. Since then I have finished my penultimate year at uni, done 3 weeks of a summer job and taken 18 young sailors to the national regatta. (www.mayorstrophy.org.uk/nssa2008) Busy busy!

Forgotten

Inspired by Illustration Friday's theme. This is based on a photo I remember from when I was little. I was always upset looking at the photo (of me as a baby) that my hat was forgotten. It wasn't until I was older that I realised someone had to have taken the photo, so the hat wasn't forgotten at all.

More Fish

I had enough of revision last night so I drew and painted the fish. Quite a challenge as they kept moving! Click to view large. (How many snails can you find?)

Liverpool

Sketches from our day out in Liverpool, I didn't have time for sketching or a camera so I wanted something to remember it by. Drawn from internet photos, but views I saw! My favourite parts were the stained glass so this will appear soon with watercolour. We climbed to the top of the cathedral tower (well part of it has a lift!!) 100m high (331 feet). Well worth it for the view.

EDM #172 Something that Sparkles (and EDM #166 Fish)

Drawn a while ago, 2 of our Swordtail fish! Unfortunately the male died, but not until we had a total of 16 fish from initially only 4! They have sparkley scales.

Moving House

Inspired by various friends moving house, a doodle in ink coloured on PC.

All the tea in China

This is a slightly strange concept I know... the concept was drawn in a (very boring!) Project Management lecture where the lecturer was talking about the difference between quality and fitness for purpose. He used the example that you wouldn't put china tea cups in a vending machine. This just had to be drawn.

Journey

This was based on an idea I had a couple of years back, I wanted to try and give a sense of travelling. Straight in ink (no pencil - quite scary for me!) and mostly on a train!!

Back Again and EDM #160

I can't belive its been over 2 months since last posting. I've had so much uni work to do I haven't had the time to post, and I haven't drawn as much as I'd have liked. I have missed it loads and have made the resolution to do a quick sketch every day to help me get through the last bits of coursework then exams! So I'm posting 3 drawings now that I did over the last couple of months, then hopefully more will be posted regularly!

This is from quite a while back, the first big sailing race I did. We'd only had the boat 2 weeks and it was a bit big for me, but I enjoyed it! Every time I rounded the clubhouse buoy I got shouts of "come on you gardners!" as I had leaves everywhere from capsizing into a tree....

EDM # 8 Draw a Piece of Jewellery

Or several! I didn't know whether to write the histories behind some of the items on the drawing round the edges, but I decided against it. What do you think? I posted it on flickr here and added comments instead. Drawn in coloured fineliners.

EDM # 159 Favourite Kitchen Tool

Also would fit for EDM # 147 Something Made of Wood. This is my favourite tool as I remember making flapjack as a kid, the best bit of course being to lick the spoon! Oats, sugar, butter and wooden taste still sticks in my mind.

Karma Chameleon

I got rather bored in a lecture and drew this on the inside of my pad with my fineliners! (I'd been watching David Attenborough's Life in Cold Blood the night before).

EDM #158 Draw a Kernel of Popcorn

Popcorn! I enjoyed eating it and choosing some interesting shapes.

I haven't had much time for posting lately, hence the catch up today.

EDM # 157 Draw a Towel

A fortnight ago I'd just come back from a very cold and snowy outdoor management course, which was great! I was very glad I bought some thermals, and the towel fitted in this picture. So here is my quick painting for EDM # 157.

Postcard From Anita

This is my reply poscard from Anita. I think he's great! I also love the colours in the sea/sand. You're very talented Anita!

Postcard to Anita

I have a slight obsession with geese after reading Mick Inkpen's 'Honk' (a Kipper book). I know I'm far too old for that sort of thing, but I do anyway. So I chose geese to paint for Anita. Unfortunately I still can't get watercolour to scan well.

Winding Walls

This is a coloured pencil sketch from a photo I took last year whilst walking in Wales. I loved the winding stone walles. I tried originally a more realistic version which didn't work out, so I let myself colour in a smoother fashion and this is the result.

Hidden Linings

I loved the lining materials on my new jeans so I painted them! You'd never guess they were there from the outside.

Texture

A new leaf stamper and a creative moment!

Return of Pig

Pig is quite a character. He loves posing, dancing and generally thinks the world revolves around him. Despite this he is very huggy and enjoys fulfilling his life purpose of being a microwaveable beany heat pack. He will be thrilled to be on here again. He's great to practice drawing on!

Goslings Join the Picnic

As breaks from revision I've been drawing... unfortunately it ends up more like revising between breaks from drawing! I love these pencil crayons, the colours and blending work really well. This came straight out my head.

Winter Sunset

For several days in a row the sunset was amazing after having rained all day. The trees silhouetted against the sky really stood out.

Welcome

This is a creative outlet for me, somewhere I can put some of my artwork for myself and others to see. Please feel free to leave comments, I love to hear them!
